>Hello! I have recently been playing the popular MMO "Star Wars The Old Republic" and have realised that this game lacks several core components that make an mmo an mmo.
1> Long Term Goals: Currently, the closest thing to a long term goal is farming (which is completely broken at the moment). IN SWTOR, long term goals come in that of saving up for an expensive Jedi Robe, or Lightsaber. SOD needs some of that. Having cool things for sale for gems simply gets some people to buy them and then not sit around with their new hat. Having long term "quests" that reward you with loot will keep players "grinding" and playing for the item. Say "Fish 100 brown trout for Tribal Viking Wilderness Sacrifice Hat". Stuff likes that keeps players playing.
2>Opposing Force: currently, there is no opposing force in the game. There are no bad guys or villans. This is a VITAL flaw. There is so much missed opportunity by not having a villanous force. In SWTOR, you can encouter groups of 3-5 bad guys that hang out in a little spot. In one "area" there could be 10 groups of these isolated bad guys. They can be roman legionares, outcast bandits, other vikings, bad dragons, whatever. These low level enemies usually drop low level loot. Say fishing bait or coins. HEck, maybe even have a rare gem drop. Enemies are a great way to get players to keep playing the game long term and be able to get "shop only" items without paying.
3>Weapons, Armor, and statistics: If goblins or evil vikings or whatever are implemented, one would need tools to combat them. Weapons could have statistics. A "Weatherd axe" could have damage level 5, but a polished mace could do 12. Same thing with armor. You know that cool armor you bought in the shop? Well maybe now it can have statistics, say "level 5 damage reduction". We have a health bar, why not use it?
4>"dungeons": I hate to use this word, but it kinda fits. Currently, this game is a singleplayer mmo. There are very few actual multiplayer components. A feature of SWTOr, is that there are special missions with insanely hard foes, but with amazing and sometimes exclusive loot. The only way to beat these opponents and get the fantastic treasure is to team up with other players. Not only are you encouraging cooperation, but you can also have an outlet that would allow F2P (free to play) players get some of the cool Gem only stuff.
I have tons of other suggestions for things that could be added to make this game more of an mmo, and would love to see similar ideas implemented.
