I know coins can be bought with gems, but it would be nice to be able to reverse the process too. Due to my own inexperience farming, I accidently spent several gems when I didn't mean to and instead of having to pay real money to get more gems, it would be nice to be able to exchange so many coins for gems instead. Maybe like an exchange rate just like the one currently offered except that the roles are switched. So 400 coin would get you 60 gems and 800 coin would get you 100 gems. Or something like that. The reason I thought of it was because the second best fishing rod used to be like 800 coin or something and I was working hard to save up my coins for it when it now cost gems. That was disappointing to me. Anyway, just a suggestion for what it's worth. :)

I agree with you Amina, however I am not sure the rate would be maintained. After all, the purchase of gems is one of the incomes that supports the game. Anyway, if the rate is agreeable I think it's a great idea.

Sorry for the double post, my browser had a bit of a freeze and I though it hadn't posted the first time.

Great suggestion! It wouldn't be fair that only members get gems, after us non-members use all our gems, we don't have any more, and a lot of items in the shop require gems to purchase, that's like limiting us from buying them. It would be nice to have an exchange rate between coins and gems. Hopefully the game would consider that.

... I'm not entirely sure about this one.
Yes, it'd make getting gem-cost things easier, but gems are meant to be ... well ...
It's like another site I frequent, GaiaOnline ((must be 13+ to join)). We have GaiaGold ((coins)) and GaiaCash ((gems)). There's been many topics about converting gg to gc, but it never happens. The reason being, is that the company needs money to continue to bring us features and items and holding the site up altogether. When people donate money they get gc depending on the amount they donate, to be used throughout the site, and, yes, there are certain benefits for being a donator. It's a reward system, is what I'm saying; a way of saying THANK YOU to the clients for investing their time and money into their company.
But why don't they convert gold to cash? Because then the company would be losing out on sales, which the company relies on. It's pretty much like walking into a store, asking for ((eg.)) a $100 product and getting it for free; they lose on profit and need to write the product off. If it continues, soon the store will be losing more money than it makes, it won't be able to cover their expences and will go bankrupt.
Or ... I'm just mega tired and rambling dragon dung.
EDIT:
Thought I'd make note of the fact that on Gaia we do have a way of earning cash, for those who can't afford to contribute, and these range from watching video advertisements ((only a few day and for 1-5GC each)), to purchasing something off a website ((like insurance or something, and some offers like that I've seen reward for 3000GC and higher)). There's also surveys ((if you qualify, it can get you 100-200GC)), or FB games to play through to a certain level ((last I recall was getting 10GC from one of these)), or even games to download and play on your comp ((can't quite remember the price of these, but I don't think it was over 100GC)). Of course, there are several scams that get through Gaia's checking process, and games that carry viruses and so forth, so I suggested in my suggestion thread that, if we do have the opportunity to earn gems, we do something like video advertisements and get a slow build up. That way the company won't lose out on much, and we'll slowly but surely get our gems.

I agree, but the game has to make some real money to keep it going, and some people would go to the strengths to get tons of coins just to convert it to gems. To be honest it probably wouldn't work out, but its a nice thought though.

I remember playing Metin2, a adventure/fighting based MMO, and it was possible to get tokens (gems) with gold from the game. But the rate was absurd, like 4 million gold coins for a couple of tokens. Of course, the average price was about 5 five tokens. But like it has been said, whether it's done or not will depend on the rate, because otherwise the company supporting the game will losing money, and that would mean no more game for anyone :\

Thanks for your input on this interesting topic, everyone! As I'm sure you all know, we're constantly analyzing and testing new things with SoD's game economy and are trying to find the right balance. We'll take this idea to our teams and see what they think.

I like the idea, but the thing is, if it was 100 gems for 800 gold and 800 gold for 100 gems, it'd make total unbalance (or it's just me). You can make loads of money off of farming and, speaking as someone who has about 6000 gold, I could get a couple hundred gems if it was like that. But, if it was something like 8000 gold for 100 gems, that might be a bit better. I don't know. I'm just putting in my 5 cents on the topic.
