Question about the Member Only viking slot

I was wondering what happens to the "member only" viking slot when our membership expires/when we cancel it?

I am considering trying out a one-month membership, and if it is worth it I will continue to subscribe. However, if I decide that it is not really worth it and cancel my subscription (assuming it automatically bills us), or if I do not re-subscribe when that month is up (if we have to manually renew our membership), will the viking in the member-only slot be deleted? If it is unused, I imagine it would just lock again, but what if I use that slot? I couldn't seem to find anything on this.

I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming that when you use that slot as a member, you still have your character. I don't think anything else would change. Perhaps after the membership is up, you just can't access that account? Don't know for sure, though.
