I feel like I'm making far too many threads, but since my partner and I completed all the quests in one day, we've been struggling to find things to do (we love the game, we're just running out of options). We've thought of a few things we'd like to see in the game:
KEY/CODE/WHATEVER
* BOLD TITLE, REGULAR FONT SIZE AND COLOUR: Suggestions that have yet to make it into the game.
* BOLD TITLE, SMALLER FONT AND GREY COLOUR: Suggestions that have made it into the game.
((NOTE: The following is in alphabetical order, not be order they were proposed.))
* ADDED RACE COURSES
The courses we have currently are fine, but I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to be challanged in new racing areas. Variety (meaning more than 2, at least) is always nice.
* EARNING GEMS: Video adverts.
Now, I can understand if this one is dismissed, but on another website I frequent, there are ways for people to each cash as well as gold. I think, for a game like this, the best one to utalise - if such a system is implemented - would be the Watch Video = Cash option. You could have an advertisement video show up once a day or once a week and, after completion of the video, players could earn 1 gem, or 2 gems, or whatever. That way people who can't afford to contribute to the game at the present time can feel a little gratified that, if they watch enough advertisement vids, they could eventually buy that bit of clothing or that 2nd slot or whatever it is they've had their eyes on.
* FISHING: 1) More fish with a harder catch rate, and
2) Reverting the Improved Rod back to gold, whether 800g or no.
1) With the slight tame switch that's been flicked on the salmon, and with the short period where people were able to buy Improved Rods for 800g, the 100% catch rate (for all those with a better rod) is becoming a bit tedious. It'd be nice if we could see some new fish brought in, like cod ((mentioned in the film)) or something, and make them slightly trickier for people even with an improved rod. I'm not saying make a fish that's SUPER INSANELY EVIL and cannot be caught unless you have the Adanved rod, because some of us cannot contribute money to the website for whatever reasons; just throw in a few new fish and make it a bit more of a challange.
2) That being said, it's unfair that there's a section of one of the newer quests that calls for salmon (("The Wolves are Coming!" or something like that)), yet the Improved Rod has once again been made unattainable to those who cannot contribute money to the game. This makes completing the quest virtually impossible, and many are getting disgruntled because of it. Yes, some were lucky to grab the rod when it was available for 800g (myself included), but there are still plenty of people who are stuck with a basic rod and little chances of ever catching the elusive salmon. So, I propose that the Improved Rod be returned to a gold cost, but whether you want to put it back to 800g, or raise the price to make it slightly harder to obtain ((but still feasible)), is up to you. Thanks to some really great feedback in this thread, perhaps it might be possible to make the Improved Rod available for gold once you reach a certain level? That way, beginniners can still fork out gems for an Improved Rod if they wish, so they can get to fishing the bigger fish earlier, but they'll know ((or hopefully they'll be informed somehow)) that they can wait it out and build their level so they can get it with gold.
* GLIDING AFTER LEARNING TO FLY
Gliding short distances was rather fun, and once your dragon is able to fly, it seems to lose its ability to glide. It'd be great if we could still glide with our fully grown dragons. Say, one hit of the spacebar = glide, as 2 taps = fly. It could also include the reopening of the Glide lessons at Flight Club, and that way those that didn't do it all or those who enjoyed gliding more than flying can continue doing the courses.
* JOB BOARD: 1) adjusting the current reward system
2) inclusion of new jobs, and
3) rotation of jobs.
1) Rewarding vikings more gold for the harder fish. Eg. 10 Brown Trout = 55 gold, 10 Eel = 60 gold etc. Bonus points (eg. x3 gold bonus) for using the basic rod, slightly lesser bonus for using the next rod up, and no bonus for using the last rod.
2) More than just fishing! Even if it's something like "Gather 100 logs for 20(?) gold" or something (there would need to be more trees able to cut).
3) With more jobs on the board, they could be rotated around so that you could only submit your resources for a certain task on certain days (that way your fishing or wood gathering isn't limited to just what you get on the day the task is on the board); say, fishing on Mondays, Wood cutting on Tuesdays, Farming on Wednesdays, etc. Of course, this doesn't mean that the quests will be stripped from your book and reset each day that they appear on the board, only that on the day of woodcutting you can only submit your wood on that day, etc. I realise this may cause flooding in some areas of the game on certain days, but if the added jobs could be done in various places like the fishing can, it could spread it out a bit.
((NOTE: Though the rotation of jobs idea didn't seem to make it, the other stuff did, so I'm calling that as implemented.))
* PREVIOUS, CURRENT AND FUTURE QUESTS ON QUEST PAGE
Sometimes I wonder about what quests I have completed in SoD. On some other online games I play (eg. Runescape), there's a section to see previously completed quests and the steps that were needed to complete it. If we had a sidebar in the Quest Page, we could have links that lead to the list of Previous Quests that recap what was needed when clicked, a Current Quests button to take you back to the regular page, and maybe even a Future Quests page that doesn't give too much detail away about them, if anything; that way, when new quests are released, we can see how many of them we need to complete. The developers could also drop in quest names (of the quests they know for sure will end up in the game soon) pre-installation, giving us something to ponder about.
* SECRET ACHIEVEMENTS
Secret tasks that can be implemented into the game that, when completed, is rewarded by gold or experience or both; maybe even with special clothing items, or badges for your profile. These can be random tasks like:
"Fly around the entire length of the [school] volcano from the outside"
"Find the 2nd entry to the hatchery"
"Send a friend request"
"Catch 30 Eels with a basic rod"
"Play Ball with your dragon 100 times" etc.
Of course, the point of them being secret is that players won't know what achievement they'll do until they've done it and have been rewarded for it (or unless someone reveals them all), so it'll be a nice little surprise
* TAG / FREE-HUG YOUR VIKING FRIENDS
Okay, I have to admit this may be a bit of a joke suggestion, but I read an article ((safe link, I promise!)) the other day about a group of guys who had been living in a constant game of tag since their childhood, and it got me to thinking about viking interraction in the game. It'd be kinda cool if you could tag or hug the people on your friends list if you come across them in the game ((I realise there must be several servers, as whenever my partner and I play the game together we can never find each other in-game, despite being on each other's lists and despite being in the same locations as one another)). You could get viking experience, maybe a little gold, and there could be precautions made - a cooling period, say - to ensure that you couldn't tag / hug someone back immediately ((say a few minutes, a half hour, an hour, a day, or whatever)), giving the other person ample time to run ((this would also prevent tag-hug spam)). Only allowing this for people on each other's friends list would stop surprise tackles of tags or hugs on random strangers, as it could probably get rather annoying to be interrupted by a tag/hug from a total stranger. Also, there could be times when tagging/hugging can't be done to a person, like when they're in one of the games, in FC, or if they're fishing.
* TREASURE HUNTING
I know there's buyable treasure in the shop, but really, that's no fun. I'm sorry, but it's not. It'd be cool if we cold head on out into the world ((wherever)) and find random treasure chests. Sometimes you can get gold, sometimes clothing, sometimes farmig stuff, or fish, or even a small amount of gems! Like the trolls, they could be in random areas and reposition themselves daily, and each one can only be found once a day/week ((possibly the latter would be preferrable, otherwise that's too much in the system too quickly)). Finding and opening a chest could also grant you Viking exp. We could even be given the treasure hunt in the form of a mini quest, where we find a bit of parchment with a clue directing us to the location of the chest/s, but wouldn't be visible by the quest arrow, making the hunt all the more gratifying of actually having worked something out for ourselves.
* TROLL HUNTING
"Trolls exist! They steal your socks. But only the left ones ... What's up with that?"
What I'm suggesting sounds ruthless thanks to the name but I'm keeping it along HTTYD standards. I propose we have the ability to "hunt" trolls ((being that we find them hiding in forests or caves or whatever)) and we get our socks back. The trolls will constantly be on the move and will be in randomly placed areas, and if there were enough locations it could be changeable each day; also, if there were only a set amount of trolls available and you could only find each one once a day, that'd keep people from ... uh ... "farming" them, I guess. Once you've recovered your socks you could get Viking exp., a gold reward ... maybe some dragon exp., depending. And with the influx of socks we could donate them the shop to be washed and recycled into patchwork clothing, or into the void that is the job board (("TROLL HUNTING: Recover 10 left socks")).
If we think of any more, I'll post them here.
