Thought I'd give mention that they seem to have calmed Salmon a bit, as some time after I made this thread I started catching salmon with the basic rod ... either that or I just figured out how to do it.

I upgraded to the 800g improved rod and the drag allows for a 100% catch rate, so I highly recommend saving up for that. It makes catching salmon a bit too easy, actually, which makes me wonder how easy it is on the advanced rod, and/or if they'll release newer, harder fish to get. They mentioned cod in the film, and I was rather surprised to find there wasn't any in the game, so maybe in the future ... ?

I've caught salmon multiple times before... But doesn't it depend on where you fish?

Just buy an advanced rod and then you will never look back. I catch them all! Way worth the $$$

Yes, it is. At least I have. But it is really anoying, and if you're like me, 4 out of 5 you will either lose the bait or break the line. But then I discovered the advanced rod. Now I don't miss a single one, not even eels xD
